BICONICAL DRYERS FOR POWDERS
Biconical dryers for powders are devices used to remove moisture from solid materials — mainly in powder or granular form — through vacuum drying processes.
Their “biconical” structure comes from the shape of the container, which has two opposite conical ends, similar to two cones joined at the base. This configuration facilitates movement and continuous mixing of the product during drying.
OPERATING CYCLE
The biconical dryer rotates slowly on a horizontal axis, allowing the material to be mixed uniformly and improving contact between the solid surface and the drying environment.
The conical shape minimizes the formation of lumps and promotes product flow along the walls, ensuring a more homogeneous drying process.
The dryer walls are usually heated by circulating a thermal fluid (such as water or diathermic oil), which maintains a constant temperature during drying.
In this way, moisture evaporates and is extracted from the system under vacuum conditions.

Biconical dryers normally operate under vacuum, reducing the internal pressure in the container.
The boiling temperature of the liquids present in the material is therefore lower, allowing the product to dry at lower temperatures — protecting it from degradation caused by prolonged exposure to high heat.
Once the drying process is complete, the dried product can be easily discharged thanks to the inclined shape of the biconical body and the presence of a strategically positioned discharge valve.
